According to the studies recently published by Airports Council International (ACI) on April 19, cargo markets experienced a revival in the second half of 2016. The study unveils that despite the looming uncertainty regarding trade policies in the face of protectionist sentiments, heightened business confidence through inventory build-ups and increased export orders remained apparent for the short-term.
ACI also published the airport wise cargo performance list for top 20 airports for 2016. It shows that the world’s largest air cargo hub continued to be Hong Kong with 3.5 per cent growth, followed by Memphis and Shanghai Airport. Significantly, Doha Airport moved up from 20th to 16th rank with a jump of 20.8 per cent increase in air cargo volumes in 2016. Representing 44 per cent of global traffic volumes, the world’s busiest airports for air cargo throughput grew 3.3 per cent year-on-year.
